Wheathampstead Playgroup is a community-based preschool providing early years education for the children of the village. We aim to provide a happy, safe and stimulating environment where learning is achieved through play. This enables the children to follow a curriculum structured around the Government's 'Birth to Three Matters' framework and the 'Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage'. The Playgroup is open to all children in the community and we welcome children with special needs (see admissions). A healthy eating policy is followed at Playgroup.

Established in 1980 Wheathampstead Playgroup is registered with Ofsted, is a member of the pre-school learning alliance, has received accreditation with Herts Quality Standards (HQS) and been awarded the HQS kitemark of quality.

The Playgroup is a registered charity (reg. charity no. 1118728) and it is incorporated as a company, Wheathampstead Playgroup Limited (no. 5958735). It is run by Trustees and volunteering parents known as 'Friends of Playgroup'.
